South African actress and television host Khanyi Mbau has once again entertained her fans with her sense of humour after showing off her new hairstyle and revealing the unexpected inspiration behind her look.

The star recently debuted a sleek, black short bob paired with oversized black glasses, instantly reminding fans of one of animation’s most iconic fashion characters, Edna Mode from The Incredibles.

Khanyi Mbau appeared to have fun with the resemblance, sharing a picture of herself alongside a picture of Edna Mode. The comparison quickly caught the attention of her followers, who joined in on the joke and praised her for embracing the look.

Sharing the pictures on social media, Khanyi wrote, “Find inspo in everything… been living in Edna Mode for few days.. happy new weeks darlings… remain abundant.”

Her post sparked laughter and amusement in the comments, with some fans encouraging her to fully embrace her inner fashion designer. One person commented, “I love this! Channel your inner Edna Mode.” Another added, “Edna Mode is an inspiration.”

Edna Mode is from the Disney/Pixar animated film The Incredibles (2004) and its sequel Incredibles 2 (2018). She is the eccentric and iconic fashion designer who creates super suits for the superhero family.

Beyond her playful hairstyle moment, Khanyi has also been reflecting on her impressive career and the international reach of her work.

The actress recently attended the Netflix South Africa event in Rosebank, where Netflix celebrated 10 years of being in South Africa. During the event, she opened up about the impact of her work and what it means to have audiences around the world connect with her.

“I think how I realised the magnitude and scale of the impact that our show had was when, not because globally people were watching because they know Khanyi Mbau, they were watching because they were interested in Africa. They are interested in my talents, my mind, my drama and even things they may disagree with. For me, this was something really strange because in South Africa fame is what I’m accustomed to so the idea of knowing that a Black woman is represented in her true form and not not represented in someone else’s words is the greatest thing for me. “

She continued, “The fun part is that I can be in Ghana, Dubai, London and someone knows my name and in places that I’ve never been. That’s the upside of it. The glory and the gratitude of the impact is being represented well and being part of the family that’s Netflix is a major flex.”

Khanyi Mbau has starred in or led two major unscripted and scripted series/shows for Netflix South Africa: the reality series Young, Famous & African and her own reality/docuseries Mbau Reloaded: Always Rise. She has also featured in Netflix films like Happiness Ever After and Meet the Khumalos.
