Netflix has celebrated a major milestone in South Africa as the streaming giant marks 10 years since launching in the country in 2016.
The company commemorated the occasion with a major press showcase in Rosebank, Johannesburg, bringing together Netflix executives, filmmakers, actors, media personalities and other well-known South African stars. The event also gave guests a first look at the exciting new content slate that will soon make its way onto screens in South Africa and around the world.
The showcase highlighted Netflix’s continued commitment to South African storytelling, with a number of familiar faces in attendance. Actress Dineo Langa and music artist Zothile Langa were among the stars at the event as the official hosts of Love is Blind: South Africa.
Media personality Anele Mdoda and businessman Bonelela “Buzza” James Mgudlwa also attended, with the pair set to feature in their upcoming wedding docu-soap, Stars & Vows: Anele and Buzza.
The star-studded event also welcomed celebrities including Khanyi Mbau, Rosemary Zimu, Kwanele Mthethwa, Motsoaledi Setumo, Tumi Morake, Pearl Thusi, Thembi Seete and more. The night was full of excitement as Netflix showcased the diverse stories and productions that are expected to entertain audiences in the coming months.
Speaking about the milestone, Ben Amadasun, VP of Content for Netflix Middle East and Africa, reflected on the company’s journey and its relationship with the local creative industry.
“Ten years ago, we set out to share South African stories and voices with the world and today, we are proud to strengthen our partnership with the local creative industry and continue creating exciting stories that will entertain our members in South Africa and around the world,” said Ben Amadasun, VP of Content for Netflix Middle East and Africa. “Our slate ahead keeps that ambition alive with the addition of established names alongside bold new production partners across genres from unscripted to thrillers, family dramas and comedy.”
Among the upcoming titles is How to Ruin Diwali: Meet The Parents, which launches on 30 October 2026. The beloved How to Ruin universe returns with a fresh cultural twist as Mmabatho Nkomo meets her fiancé’s traditional Indian family for the first time. Her attempt to impress them takes an unexpected turn when she accidentally exposes her future father-in-law’s secret affair.
With Diwali only days away, Mmabatho must navigate unfamiliar cultural territory while trying to reunite the family she has torn apart without creating even more chaos.
Another highly anticipated title is Another Disaster Holiday, arriving on 11 December 2026. The film follows Joseph Ngema, who is preparing to become a dad again at fifty while attempting to prove that he is still father of the year.
Under the guise of a romantic Sun City babymoon with a heavily pregnant Nandi, Joseph sets out to crash his children’s holiday with his ex-wife Dora and her hot younger boyfriend. Kay Sibiya joins the returning star-studded cast as Dora’s new bae and Joseph’s newest competition.
Netflix also confirmed that Marked Season 2 and Meet The Khumalos 2 are currently in production, giving viewers even more South African entertainment to look forward to.
With a decade of South African stories already behind it, Netflix’s latest showcase suggests that the next chapter will be just as ambitious, with more local productions set to reach audiences both at home and internationally.
