South African actor Vuyo Biyela has added another achievement to his growing list of accolades after receiving a certificate at the 2nd Annual Awards.
The actor was recognised with the Excellence in Acting and Craft Award, celebrating his talent, dedication and contribution to the acting industry. Biyela proudly shared the special moment on stage with his followers on social media, reflecting on what the recognition means to him.
For the actor, the award comes at an important time in his career. His role as Zwelakhe Mkhize in Kwa Baba has challenged him professionally and allowed him to grow as an actor. The role also marks his first lead role.
Sharing a heartfelt message, Vuyo wrote:
“This one means a lot. Kwa Baba has challenged me in ways I didn’t expect. 2026 has been a difficult year, but when I look back, I can genuinely see the growth in my craft, and that alone makes me proud. The difficult part is the sacrifice, spending less time with family, missing moments, and sometimes having to choose the work over the people you love. But I love what I do. I love acting because, for a moment, I get to escape reality and live through someone else’s story.
It’s been a very tough week, and receiving this award reminded me of why I do this. To know that the work is being seen, felt and appreciated means more than I can explain. Ngiyabonga. This is a reminder to keep going, keep learning and keep giving this craft everything I have.”
Biyela has steadily built an impressive acting career, appearing in several popular South African productions.
Before taking on his lead role in Kwa Baba, he appeared as Freedom in The Polygamist on Netflix. He also played Mlilo Hlophe in The River, a role that earned him significant recognition.
His previous achievements include winning Best Newcomer Actor: Film at the 2022 Simon ‘Mabhunu’ Sabela KZN Film & Television Awards for his breakout performance in Salamina.
In 2023, he won Outstanding Newcomer at the Royalty Soapie Awards for his role as Mlilo Hlophe on The River. That same year, he returned to the Simon ‘Mabhunu’ Sabela KZN Film & Television Awards and won Best Newcomer Actor: TV for his performance on The River.
With another award now added to his collection, Biyela continues to prove himself as one of the actors making his mark in the South African entertainment industry. His latest recognition is also a reminder of the hard work and sacrifices that go into building a lasting career in acting.
For Biyela, the journey is far from over. As he continues to take on challenging roles, the actor remains focused on growing his craft, learning and giving every performance his all.
