Actress and DJ Pearl Thusi has opened up about her personal thoughts on Mother’s Day and revealed that she does not feel deeply connected to the holiday.
Mother’s Day is usually filled with love, celebrations, and appreciation for mothers around the world, with many celebrities taking time to honour their moms on social media. However, Pearl Thusi decided to share a more honest and emotional perspective about the day.
In a video she posted on her Instagram, the actress spoke openly about losing her mother and how she experiences the occasion differently from many people. She said, “Not to be a weirdo, but for anyone who doesn’t have a mother anymore, what do you guys do for Mothers Day? I think about my mom when I’m around her grave and I will go and see it. I try and be great to her sister, wish other Mothers a happy Mother’s Day. As a mother, I don’t feel very much connected to the holiday. That’s weird right? Let me know if it’s weird. But Mothers Day is like Christmas to me, it’s like ‘oh great, cool’. Is Mother’s Day for mothers or is it for people to celebrate their mothers?”
Her heartfelt words sparked conversations online, with many people relating to her feelings about the day, especially those who have lost their mothers. Others appreciated her honesty and vulnerability about such an emotional topic.
On Sunday, 10 May 2026, Pearl also gave fans a look at how she spent her Mother’s Day. Instead of a glamorous outing, she enjoyed a peaceful day at home gardening and cooking. The star shared videos of herself picking cucumbers from her garden before heading into the kitchen to prepare a fresh salad.
She wrote, “Making the viral lettuce salad with garden ingredients!
LOTS of lettuce
Garlic
Vinegar and olive oil.
Salt and black pepper.
Lots of lemon
I add African cucumber and cheese for vibes.
I used mozzarella cheese but prefer Parmesan! “
