The Mrs South Africa organisation has officially confirmed that Verushka Singh has stepped down from her title as Mrs South Africa 2026, marking an unexpected change in leadership for the well-known women empowerment platform.
Singh, who was crowned on 15 November 2025 at Emperors Palace, made history when she became the first Indian South African woman to win the prestigious title. Her win was widely celebrated, not only for its significance in representation but also for her inspiring background. Beyond the pageant stage, Singh is a chemical engineer and climate consultant, balancing a demanding professional career with her role as a titleholder.
Her time as Mrs South Africa, however, has come to an early end. The organisation revealed that Singh made the personal decision to step down in order to focus on her family and personal life. Despite her departure, she leaves the platform with a sense of gratitude and appreciation.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served on this platform and for the incredible women I’ve had the privilege of standing alongside,” she said.
Singh also emphasised that her decision was entirely her own, making it clear that it was guided by what matters most to her at this stage of her life. “This decision is entirely my own, made with my family’s needs at heart, and I step away with nothing but appreciation for Mrs South Africa and what it stands for,” she added.
Mrs South Africa CEO, Joani Jacobs, spoke highly of Singh, praising her for how she represented the organisation during her reign. “Verushka has carried the title with dedication and professionalism during her time on the platform,” said Jacobs. She also shared that the organisation fully supports Singh’s choice to prioritise her personal life.
As per tradition, the First Princess, Carika Bebb, has now officially taken over the title of Mrs South Africa 2026. Stepping into the role, Bebb expressed both excitement and gratitude for the opportunity.
“It is an honour to step into this role and to continue the work of this incredible women empowerment platform,” she said.
Bebb also shared her vision for the future, adding that she plans to represent the organisation with purpose and make a meaningful impact as she begins her journey as the new Mrs South Africa 2026.
