South African singer, actress, and TV presenter Nandi Madida recently took a moment to wish prominent hip-hop artist and now podcaster L-Tido a happy birthday. Sharing her heartfelt message on social media, Nandi wrote:

“@L_Tido Happy birthday. My brother, there are truly no words for how proud I am of everything you’ve achieved with this platform and in your life overall. Keep shining the way you do. And don’t worry, I’ll always be your sister who lovingly pokes fun at you.”

The birthday wishes came shortly after Nandi appeared on L-Tido’s podcast, where she opened up about the challenges young women face in South Africa and why some find themselves in difficult or compromised situations.

“I don’t like judging any female, for example, who sometimes feels like or is in a compromised situation. I want to break down the system, and this is my perspective. When you have a government that doesn’t empower the youth,  I’m talking about females,  there’s not one female who would tell you they want to be with a criminal, a sugar daddy, and some random minister,” Nandi explained.

She continued to emphasise the lack of support for young women in the country, citing funding issues and social inequality. “They want to be independent and to choose their real love of their lives, which is usually not that spec, let’s be honest. But we have a country that doesn’t have enough support. You’ve seen it, whether it’s funding for university, you saw with Fees Must Fall, you saw how the kids were treated, and it’s still an issue and it feels intentional,” she said.

Reflecting on her own life, Nandi also shared why she feels confident and grounded. “I can tell you now why I’m so confident. But the reason why you say, ‘Nandi, you have integrity’… I can’t tell you with my chest. Had my father not provided for me, [or] a husband who was supportive in that way, you don’t know,” she said.

Her biggest passion, she revealed, is empowering young women. “My biggest passion is young females, and if we can empower females… These beautiful girls don’t want to be with sugar daddies. If you can get empowered, they would be able to change their lives,” Nandi said.
