Actor Nhlanhla Kunene has paid a heartfelt tribute to legendary actress Nandi Nyembe, four months after her passing. The actor took to social media to remember the late star, reflecting on the deep bond they shared both on and off the screen.
Nyembe and Kunene worked closely together on Showmax’s popular drama series Adulting, where they played grandmother and grandson. Nyembe portrayed the beloved character MaGetty, while Kunene played her grandson Mkhuseli, also known as Tsikitsiki. Their on-screen relationship was admired by many viewers and mirrored a strong connection behind the scenes.
In an emotional Facebook post, Kunene opened up about how much Nyembe meant to him and how difficult life has been since her death. He shared how she was a constant source of support, guidance and comfort during challenging times.
“It’s been four months since Umagraiza passed away. Life has never been the same without her,” he wrote.
Kunene went on to describe the important role Nyembe played in his life, both professionally and personally. He spoke about how she was someone he could always rely on, especially when things became overwhelming.
“Umagraiza (Nyembe) was my comfort, my laughter, my guide and my safety on and off-screen. When everything fell apart, she was still my anchor,” he wrote.
Nandi Nyembe passed away in August 2025 at the age of 75 after a long-term illness. Her death was a major loss to the South African entertainment industry, where she was respected for her talent, experience and contribution to storytelling over many years.
Kunene admitted that he is still struggling to accept her passing and that the pain remains deeply present in his life.
“Losing her broke something in me that I’m still learning how to live with. I still reach for her in moments when life gets too heavy,” he shared.
The actor also reflected on the absence Nyembe has left behind, saying her presence made life easier to face.
“I miss her presence, her voice, her strength, and the way she made everything feel a little less impossible,” he added.
Although Kunene said he only has a few photos of the two of them together, he believes their connection was meaningful and genuine.
“I only have a few pictures of us, but what we shared was real, deep, and special. That love stays with me.
It lives in my heart, even when life doesn’t make sense anymore. Life has never been the same without her. But here we are. Eish… Umagraiza ka Mkhuseli”
