South African music legends Trompies are back on the streets, reminding Mzansi exactly why they remain the heartbeat of kwaito. For more than 30 years, the iconic group has shaped the sound and spirit of the townships, turning their stories into anthems and cementing themselves as pioneers of a culture that defined generations.

From their 1994 debut, Trompies have owned their lane — African rhythms, heavy basslines, percussive loops, and lyrics proudly in vernac. Their music captured the pulse of everyday life and elevated kwaito into a cultural movement. With over 12 albums, multiple platinums and more than a million records sold, the group continues to show the same fire that made them household names.

Now they’re ushering in a new chapter with “Lilizela”, a feel-good, intergenerational anthem featuring Nokwazi, Kwesta and Stoan. The track carries everything fans love about Trompies — infectious repetition, warm sing-along hooks and that unmistakable kwaito bounce. Blended with subtle modern piano elements, “Lilizela” is built for wedding season, Saturday celebrations and every space where joy belongs.

The studio chemistry behind “Lilizela” brought back the collaborative magic that has always powered Trompies. The crew locked in with the featured artists to craft a record that honours their roots while tapping into today’s sound. It’s classic Trompies wrapped in a fresh sonic layer — proof that the pioneers who shaped the genre still lead the way with authority.

The single officially kicks off the pre-add for their upcoming EP “Pantsula 4 Life”, dropping 30 January 2026. The project is stacked with heavyweight features including Vetkuk vs Mahoota, Kabza De Small, TOSS, Kwesta, Reece Madlisa, Dr Lamandro, Nokwazi and more. Expect a celebration of homegrown sound and a continuation of the legacy that’s kept Trompies at the core of kwaito for three decades strong.

“Lilizela” is more than a single — it’s a statement. Trompies aren’t just part of SA’s musical history; they’re still writing it. And as “Pantsula 4 Life” approaches, they walk into this new era with the same pride, purpose and unmistakable groove that shaped a generation.

Stream/Download “Lilizela” now and request it on your favourite station.
