Global Citizen, the world-famous advocacy movement known for uniting global leaders and changemakers, is bringing its flagship NOW Action Summit to Africa for the very first time. The groundbreaking event, titled Global Citizen NOW: Joburg, will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg — marking a major milestone for the continent.
This historic gathering will bring together presidents, prime ministers, major investors, youth innovators, and cultural icons under one powerful theme: “Africa’s energy and development moment has arrived.”
According to Daily Sun, at the centre of this impactful event is none other than Nomzamo Mbatha (35), the beloved South African actress, humanitarian, and Global Citizen Ambassador, who has been chosen to host the inaugural African summit.
As host, Nomzamo will lead meaningful conversations among some of the world’s most influential voices, focusing on Africa’s clean-energy transition and sustainable development. “Access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy is essential to Africa’s economic transformation,” she said, highlighting the importance of the summit’s mission.
Her role as host reflects her growing influence as a global ambassador for African progress and empowerment. The summit will feature a star-studded lineup including Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Pearl Thusi, Nandi Madida, and Sabrina Dhowre Elba, along with political leaders such as President Cyril Ramaphosa. Together, they aim to find real solutions for advancing sustainable energy and improving lives across the continent.
Nomzamo’s involvement also represents a shift in global advocacy — one where African voices are leading the conversation on climate action, development, and youth empowerment.
Sharing her excitement, Nomzamo said, “I am honoured to host Global Citizen NOW: Johannesburg, a critical platform to turn ambition into action, aligning governments, investors, and citizens behind a shared vision for a more sustainable future for our continent. This is about more than powering homes; it’s about empowering communities, driving inclusive growth, and ensuring a greener future for generations to come.”
Her words capture the spirit of hope and unity driving the summit, a reminder that Africa’s moment to lead the global sustainability movement is here.
