South African influencer and DJ Cyan Boujee has spoken out about her uncomfortable experience during a controversial campaign in Russia. The 24-year-old star, whose real name is Honour Zuma, revealed that she noticed several red flags while working on the project, which is now under investigation by authorities.
This comes after viral videos surfaced online, showing influencers promoting job opportunities for young women in Russia. The clips advertised a two-year “start programme” that promised to help young women gain professional skills and career opportunities. However, the videos have since been deleted from social media following public backlash.
In her latest YouTube vlog, Cyan shared a series of voice notes she exchanged with her PR manager. In these recordings, she expressed her discomfort with the campaign and the way it was handled. She explained that she felt misled and uneasy, especially after witnessing troubling situations involving other participants.
One moment that stood out for her was during an interview with a young woman in the programme. Cyan recalled how the woman broke down in tears, saying she was not being treated well and hinting at possible exploitation.
Cyan stressed that she wanted to expose the truth about what was really happening.
“I would never sell any woman intentionally. I’m going to share some of the dodgy stuff that I figured from this programme. These are the voice notes I shared on the same day with my PR manager, and I told her that there was something off,” she said.
She also highlighted how unprofessional the environment was. “I didn’t know that God is going to use me to expose the brand. So I was like, if you work with any other influencers you have to be legit because this is BS. Based on their unprofessionalism. Smoking while taking videos of me, photographers taking videos. I’m like, ‘Guys can we focus so that we can get done?’ But everyone was just slow.”
Cyan also voiced concern about the young people who were part of the programme. She explained how many of them seemed unhappy, especially when being interviewed on camera.
“When I interviewed the kids, most of them were not happy, especially with the answers they had to give on camera. For example, this lady, I asked her how her accommodation was, is it comfortable? How are your roommates treating you? And she cried. I was just in disbelief. She was not happy. We had to wait so long for that girl to calm down so she could actually lie and say everything is good and everyone is kind,” Cyan said in one of the voice notes.
She ended by saying she hopes the investigation brings the truth to light, as she remains deeply concerned about the experiences of the young women involved.
