Kaya 959 presenter, DJ, and podcaster Sol Phenduka has finally broken his silence about why he was suspended from the station.
Fans were left shocked after Kaya 959 released a statement on Wednesday, 20 August, confirming that Sol, whose real name is Solomzi Phenduka, would not be on air from Thursday, 21 August. The station explained that the suspension was effective immediately while an internal process is underway.
“The station is committed to following due process, and no further details will be shared at this stage. Updates will be provided once the internal process has been concluded and a final decision has been reached,” Kaya 959 said in its brief statement.
This left listeners and social media users speculating about the real reason behind the suspension. Many suspected it could be linked to the legal action taken by Minnie Dlamini following comments made on Podcast and Chill.
Sol, however, chose to clear the air himself. Taking to Twitter, he told fans to tune into the Thursday episode of Podcast and Chill for the answers they wanted.
Speaking openly on the podcast, the Diqabang hitmaker explained what went down but insisted he is innocent.
“This happened this morning. When I left the meeting, they said don’t say anything. So, I don’t say anything because of the confidentiality clause. But I did nothing,” he said.
His co-host MacG (Macgyver Mukwevho), who also previously worked at Kaya 959, gave his own take, saying the station has made up its mind about Sol. “Writing is on the wall. It’s quite clear where this is going. But I lasted though,” MacG said.
Kaya 959 has remained firm, saying the matter is being handled carefully. “Kaya 959 confirms that presenter Sol Phenduka has been placed on suspension with immediate effect, pending the outcome of an internal process. We want to assure all staff that the matter is being handled with fairness, sensitivity and due process. At this stage, no further details can be shared, but we will keep you informed as soon as there are developments,” the statement read.
For now, listeners will have to wait for the station’s final decision, while Sol maintains he did nothing wrong.
