The Miss South Africa organisation has officially announced that the country will not be participating in the Miss Supranational 2025 pageant, marking a second major international withdrawal within months. This comes after the reigning Miss South Africa, Mia le Roux, also exited the Miss Universe competition in November 2024, a decision that left pageant fans both shocked and concerned.

In a statement shared across its social media platforms, the Miss South Africa team expressed heartfelt gratitude to fans while confirming their withdrawal from Miss Supranational, set to take place in Poland in June 2025. “With heartfelt gratitude to our incredible fans, we share that Miss South Africa will not participate in the Miss Supranational 2025 competition,” the statement read. “We deeply value the memories and connections of this event. We wish the Miss Supranational Organisation a spectacular event.”

The announcement quickly sparked reactions from loyal supporters, who flooded the comments with disappointment and questions. Social media user @Mosibudi (Mosi) Leboho said, “I was looking forward to seeing Nompumelelo or Mia Participating.” Another follower, @Awongwe Sanelisiwe Ndadana, wrote, “What a Wow! You guys know how to hurt us, Shem!! So is the Miss Universe license still active?” @Rushon Ganyo added, “You dropped Miss World, then withdrew from Miss Universe during the competition, now from Miss Supranational. Why do you have to crash the dreams of ladies in pageantry?” Meanwhile, @celeste_h_2002 commented, “But not surprised guys I’m sorry but Mia does not have what it takes to be Miss South Africa.”

In November, Mia le Roux, 28, was forced to withdraw from Miss Universe, which was being held in Mexico, due to undisclosed health concerns. She had spent weeks in the host country preparing for the finale before organisers confirmed her withdrawal, citing her well-being as the top priority.

Le Roux, who made history in August 2024 as the first deaf woman to be crowned Miss South Africa, expressed the difficulty of her decision in a heartfelt statement. “Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed upon me,” she said. “However, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength.”
