Radio and TV favourites Scoop Makhathini (real name Siyabonga Ngwekazi) and Luthando “Loot Love” Shosha are set to bring their star power to the 2025 Metro FM Music Awards, happening on May 3. As hosts, they’re preparing to deliver a night full of celebration, glam, and unforgettable moments. In a chat with Sowetan, they gave a sneak peek into what audiences can expect from this year’s prestigious event.
This year’s theme is “Crowning Greatness”, and Scoop explains what it’s all about: “We are awarding SA royalty in the music industry. Our musicians have been our biggest flag-bearers and ambassadors, ministers of foreign affairs to date. I anticipate an evening as dynamic, colourful, bold and funny as SA is.”
Loot Love adds that the event is a true celebration of the country’s global stars. “This night is truly about our incredible global stars. Homegrown and trending worldwide. This is another year to highlight, give flowers and really acknowledge their essence, their creativity and their excellence,” she says.
She promises an incredible production, electrifying performances, and a night full of energy, music, and pure fun.
With the big night getting closer, the hosts are in full prep mode. Loot admits the nerves are real: “My anxiety is keeping me up. I’m researching a lot, looking at the previous years and other shows for inspiration. I also really have powerful creative sessions with my team that get the juices flowing.”
Scoop, on the other hand, is all about staying grounded: “Taking care of my health. My mind, soul, spirit, heart, vibration, energy and frequency.”
When it comes to stage fright, Scoop says he’s unfazed: “We don’t get nervous. We just get prepared; what I’m about to do on that stage will be like breathing to me.”
Loot adds: “Yes, I do [get nervous]. Lots, but I pray. Deeply.”
As for what they’ll be wearing on the night, both are keeping some details under wraps. “A lady never tells; just know I’m ready to do right by the theme ‘Crowning Greatness’,” teases Loot.
Scoop, however, shares that he’ll start the night with something very special: “We have seven changes and I’m starting with my traditional Mbhaco Wambhele left for me by my late dad. I think it’s only fitting to open the night with his beads and headdress.”
He also names Wanda Lephoto and Samkelo Boyer as some of the designers helping him bring his fashion vision to life.
When asked who they’re rooting for, Scoop keeps it general: “Every artist that is deserving of it.”
Loot, however, shares a name: “One artist I’ve really been loving is Zee Nxumalo. I really think she is exciting, refreshing. Very talented, and I’m all for young black women getting theirs.”
With a powerful theme, star-studded performances, and these two at the helm, the 2025 Metro FM Music Awards is shaping up to be a celebration you won’t want to miss.
