The family of beloved comedian Ebenhaezer Dibakwane has opened up about his heartbreaking death, confirming that he passed away on March 7, 2025, at the age of 31.
In an emotional statement, the Dibakwane family shared their deep sorrow over his passing, revealing that preliminary findings suggest he died by suicide. They are awaiting confirmation from the post-mortem examination.
“The past few days have been excruciating for us, as we battle to deal with this loss,” the statement read.
Ebenhaezer, fondly known as “Ebby,” was known for his ability to bring joy and laughter to others. However, his family revealed that he had been silently struggling with depression for years.
“Poignantly, Ebby was well-known for the talent of making people laugh, and yet he struggled with depression for a number of years. While his passing is devastating for us and for many who loved him, it is our prayer that this tragedy may remind all of us of the need to look out for each other, while taking care of our own mental health, including seeking professional help where necessary.”
The family expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received during this difficult time. They also encouraged anyone struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts to seek help and shared the contact information for the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) at 0800 567 567 (toll-free).
