Popular businessman Sphamandla Mabonga, known for his past relationship with reality star and singer Londie London, tragically lost his life in a shootout at a high-end nightclub in Sandton. The incident occurred on March 6, 2025, at the well-known Solo nightclub located in the heart of Sandton. Sources report that Mabonga was involved in a violent altercation, which resulted in his fatal injuries.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, authorities are investigating the shooting as a case of murder and attempted murder. “The police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following a shooting incident that claimed the lives of three people and left four injured last night, March 6 2025, at a restaurant in Sandton,” Nevhuhulwi confirmed to Sunday World.
The events unfolded when a man, later identified as the suspect, attempted to enter the restaurant despite the venue’s strict no-firearm policy. This led to a confrontation, escalating into a deadly shootout between the suspect’s bodyguards and the nightclub’s security personnel.
“Two of the bodyguards were declared dead on the scene, while five victims, including the man, two patrons, a community police forum (CPF) member, and a security guard, were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. The man later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital,” Nevhuhulwi added. Police further revealed that the suspect involved had a criminal history, including a previous arrest related to another shooting in Sandton in 2024.
Mabonga, whose name has been tied to multiple controversies, was no stranger to violent incidents. In January 2024, he was involved in another shootout at Tempo nightclub in Sandton, where he was shot in the ribs during an altercation with another club patron. At the time, Sunday World reported that Mabonga was admitted to Mediclinic Morningside for treatment after the incident.
In another troubling incident from March 2024, Mabonga was detained by authorities following a violent confrontation with nightclub security in Sunninghill. After being denied entry to the venue for carrying a firearm, Mabonga reportedly opened fire on the security guards. That incident led to further investigations into his actions, including allegations of assaulting a female journalist at Konka nightclub in Pimville, Soweto, and using fraudulent means to acquire vehicles from a financial institution.
Mabonga’s violent past and controversial reputation raised questions about his involvement in various incidents over the past year. Despite this, his death at the hands of gunmen at a high-profile nightclub in Sandton has sent shockwaves through the local community.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and police investigations are ongoing. Authorities are working to piece together the details of this tragic event and determine the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation.
