South African singer MaWhoo, whose real name is Thandeka Nontobeko Ngema, has publicly criticised Life Fourways Hospital for what she describes as poor treatment and alleged racism. Despite her status as a well-known celebrity, MaWhoo took to social media to express her frustration after she and her sick cousin were given inadequate care at the hospital.
According to The South African, the Gucci hitmaker shared her negative experience on Facebook, where she accused Life Fourways Hospital of prioritising white patients over her cousin, who was in urgent need of medical attention. MaWhoo expressed her anger, saying the service at the hospital was disrespectful and embarrassing. “LIFE-FOURWAYS HOSPITAL service is very poor; they treat people like dogs. I’ve never been embarrassed like that,” she wrote. “Ey labantu ababazi abantu & it’s not the first time benza kanje.”
MaWhoo went on to claim that the hospital staff had racially profiled her and her cousin. She recounted that while her cousin could barely breathe, the staff ignored them and assisted a white couple who had arrived after them. “My cousin is very sick. She can barely breathe, but instead, they are rude & ignoring, entertaining the white couple who came after her,” she stated.
The singer continued to express her disbelief over the situation, especially given that private hospitals are usually expected to offer quicker service. “I’m still shocked because I thought private hospitals would assist fast; when we told them ukuthi we needed help, they said that we were rushing. Some people are so disrespectful. The only people they prioritise are white people. I don’t wish anyone to experience this.”
