Miss South Africa Mia le Roux is leading the charge for inclusivity by raising awareness and advocating for people with hearing impairments. Partnering with B4i Academy, she is working to empower individuals with disabilities across South Africa through education and support.
This collaboration is part of le Roux’s Mia le Roux Movement, an advocacy campaign aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the estimated four million deaf people in the country. The initiative is also focused on tackling broader issues of exclusion, whether based on ability, poverty, gender, or location.
In a statement, Mia emphasised the importance of this partnership. “This initiative is a step towards a more inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, has access to opportunities to succeed,” she said.
She added, “It became my mission to break barriers for all who are excluded, whether by ability, poverty, gender, or location. This led to the formation of the Mia Le Roux Movement, a platform dedicated to advocating for the estimated four million deaf individuals in South Africa while also raising awareness of all forms of exclusion.”
The focus of the campaign is clear: changing lives. Mia shared her vision, stating, “It’s to offer pathways to dignity, independence, and economic participation for those who often face barriers in accessing education and employment. Together, we aim to break down these barriers, enabling individuals with disabilities to contribute meaningfully to society.”
According to Daily Sun, Yolandi Venter, CEO of B4i Academy, expressed her support for the partnership, saying, “We believe in the transformative power of education to unlock potential and create opportunities for all. Our collaboration with Mia signifies our steadfast commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. Together, we will tailor educational programmes that prioritise quality over quantity, ensuring that individuals with disabilities have access to the skills and training they need to thrive in the current economy.”
Through this powerful collaboration, Mia le Roux and B4i Academy are taking significant steps to empower individuals with disabilities, helping them overcome barriers and unlock new opportunities for success.
