Lekau Sehoana is ready to relaunch his sneaker brand, Drip, next month, introducing a new shoe, the Likwidz 23, which will be available for purchase at TAPE. The announcement comes after a rocky period for the brand, which faced major challenges in late 2024.
On social media, Sehoana shared the exciting news with his followers: “HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM DRIP SPORTIF! Wishing you and yours an epic year ahead, filled with fresh kicks, new vibes, and endless possibilities. And to make it even more exciting, we’re thrilled to announce that DRIP is coming back, reborn, and stronger than ever.”
He continued, “We’ve been through the fire and came out stronger. New retail partnerships, new heat, and a new era for DRIP. PLEASE MARK FEBRUARY ON YOUR CALENDAR! Our first sneaker drop of the year is around the corner. Please do stay locked in for updates, and get ready to experience the REBIRTH of DRIP!”
In his posts, Sehoana also revealed that the new Likwidz 23 sneaker will be launched and sold at TAPE from February, marking a return to retail for Drip Sportif after a tough 2024. “Cat’s out the bag, our new sneaker will be launched and retailed at @officiallytape from Feb. More details will be shared on the DRIP and TAPE pages. This retail partnership sees our return to business with DRIP SPORTIF. Thank you for the messages of encouragement, this is our REBIRTH.”
The announcement comes after Drip Footwear had to close its stores in October 2024 following a liquidation order from the High Court in Johannesburg. This was due to a lawsuit filed by Wideopen Platform, a large advertising agency, for unpaid services. The company was reportedly owed R20 million for advertising, as stated by Kim Warren, a lawyer representing Wideopen.
Despite the challenges, many on social media have expressed excitement about Drip’s return. One fan shared, “@dripsportif and @LekauSehoana congratulations once again, if possible also bring back the first Likwidz even if it’s only 1 or 2 colours…. Those sneakers are very light and comfortable for all ages, thank you.” Another user commented, “Jordan 23 relative I like the sneakers. Finally, I can own a drip.”
However, not all feedback was positive. Some offered business advice, with one user suggesting, “This guy must run his business online like Amazon. This thing of opening shops in every mall is costly. It’s cheaper to open one big warehouse and distribute to online buyers from there. Business has gone online.” Others were more critical, with one comment alleging, “This one is a crook, just like many business owners. They all claim bankruptcy to avoid paying their spouse & tax and then later come back relaunching their business again.”
Cat’s out the bag, @OfficiallyTape will be our new Exclusive Retail Partner for the Launch of our new Sneaker, Likwidz 23.
The launch is happening in February 2025.
