Lasizwe Dambuza has reached an exciting milestone: 1 million subscribers on his YouTube channel! The South African star’s rise to fame skyrocketed after launching his dating show, Awkward Dates, in August 2023.
Awkward Dates is a fun YouTube show where Lasizwe goes on blind dates with popular celebrities. Some of the big names who have appeared include Vusi Nova, Julius Malema, Mihlali Ndamase, Ntando Duma, and Anele Zondo. The show is produced by Lasizwe’s own company, TD Media, and quickly became a fan 6, helping his channel grow rapidly.
Lasizwe started his YouTube career in 2017, creating funny skits and introducing his beloved character, Nomatriquency. But it was Awkward Dates that really boosted his following.
To mark reaching 1 million subscribers, Lasizwe went live on YouTube and Instagram to countdown to the big moment. “Guys, we did it! Thank you to everybody! Thank you to every single one of you who has watched Awkward Dates, subscribed, and I’m truly grateful,” he said. “You guys could’ve subscribed somewhere else, but you chose to subscribe and believe in a young Black man’s dreams.”
Lasizwe’s fans flooded the comments with congratulations, and he even called up a few of his celebrity guests from Awkward Dates to join the celebration. It was a heartwarming moment as Lasizwe and his fans celebrated the success together.
