Media personality Lasizwe Dambuza recently aired another hilarious episode of his YouTube dating show Awkward Dates, this time with Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) president Julius Malema in the hot seat. Known for its unscripted and unpredictable moments, Awkward Dates pairs Lasizwe with various celebrities for funny and sometimes awkward blind dates.
The date began with formal introductions, but things quickly became interesting as Malema shared some personal insights. He revealed that, while many South Africans head to holiday hotspots like Cape Town in December, he will be returning to his childhood home in Seshego, Polokwane, as part of his holiday tradition.
When it came to food, Malema confessed that he’s not a fan of buffets because they overwhelm him. He also shared that while he doesn’t like baked beans and wors, he’s a huge fan of goat meat.
In a candid moment, Lasizwe asked Malema about his phone habits, to which the politician replied, “I have to check my phone because I work. Politicians don’t sleep. As we are sleeping, the US is up, China is up.”
Malema also spoke about his self-care routine, admitting he visits the spa occasionally but not very often. When asked about the most romantic thing he’s ever done, Malema didn’t hesitate: “The most romantic thing I’ve ever done was when I got on one knee, asking my wife to marry me, there’s no romance bigger than that.”
As expected, with Lasizwe in the mix, there were plenty of awkward moments. One standout was when Lasizwe tried to speak in Sepedi by calling Malema “murandziwa waka,” which means “my love” in Venda. Malema swiftly corrected him, joking that Lasizwe should find a Pedi lover because, according to Malema, the language is “sexually transmitted.”
The date took place during working hours, and while Dambuza sipped on a margarita, Malema kept it professional, ordering only water. “I’m still at work, from here I’m rushing somewhere. I’m actually rushing to the office,” he explained.
Fans of both Dambuza and Malema took to social media to express how much they enjoyed the episode. @blinkym21 praised Lasizwe’s creativity, saying, “Can we also give LaSizwe a massive pat on the back for this amazing series! This young man is a very creative and bold content creator.” Meanwhile, @immanuelnghifikwa6703 remarked, “I’ve never seen Mr. Honourable so humble and shy like this before.”
