Shekhinah wowed audiences during the Brutal Fruit Spritzer Saturday Brunch tour, delivering a stunning performance alongside the 21-piece Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. The tour stopped in Durban, Cape Town, and Johannesburg, with the latter hosting a breathtaking acoustic showcase on 16 November 2024. Fans were treated to hits like Please Mr. and Back to the Beach in a beautifully emotional setting.
In an interview with TRUELOVE, Shekhinah shared her thoughts on the challenges and rewards of performing with an orchestra for the first time.
“I think it was very nerve-wracking. Everything has to be a lot more precise, which is difficult. So, I think that was challenging, but it was such a good challenge because it forced us to play and sing the music as, like, the record,” she explained.
The experience also pushed her artistry to new heights. “It’s just another side of music that we don’t always get to explore. The beauty with this experience was … it wasn’t the same type of show we always do,” she added.
Though it’s been three years since her last album, Trouble in Paradise, Shekhinah is gearing up for a major comeback. Her new singles Risk and Steady are setting the stage for her highly anticipated third studio album, which is expected to drop in February 2025.
Describing the upcoming project, Shekhinah said, “For the first time, it’s a very crazy mix of genres, and I’m interested to see how people receive it. I have tried to be extremely pop, extremely Afro-pop, and extremely R&B all in one setting.”
The album will also stay true to her signature exploration of love in all its forms. “It’s a continuation from Rose Gold and Trouble in Paradise … It’s for everyone. There is a situationship story for everyone — if you’re in love, if you’re out of love, if you’re in a self-love space,” she shared.
Shekhinah hopes the album will resonate deeply with listeners. “I always love to encapsulate all the different forms of love … I’m hoping it’s just music that holds people down when they need it.”
With her powerful live performances and exciting new music on the horizon, Shekhinah continues to cement her place as one of South Africa’s most versatile and beloved artists.
