The Comedy Central Roast is back, and this time media personality Pearl Thusi will be in the hot seat. The much-anticipated event is set to be filmed at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre on 21 November 2024, with fans able to catch the broadcast on Comedy Central on 8 December at 21:00.
In an exclusive interview with TRUE LOVE, actress and comedian Farieda Metsileng shared her excitement about being part of the panel and revealed how she manifested this opportunity.
“To be honest, I think it was something that I put on my vision board years ago, and I don’t know what it is about how my career changed, but I think maybe it’s put me in a better light to be considered to be one of the panellists,” she said.
Farieda sees this moment as a significant milestone in her career. “It’s like a full circle moment for me because I’ve grown so much from what people know me from, and behind the scenes, I mean, I’m just working to kind of make my dream come true. So, I’m kind of like exploring this new avenue.”
Known for her roles in uBettina Wethu and her infectious sense of humour, Farieda is bringing her acting, presenting, and comedic chops to the roast panel. She’s ready to deliver punchlines with a dose of “spice,” as she puts it.
Speaking about Pearl Thusi as the ideal roast candidate, Farieda shared her admiration. “Pearl represents like an extrovert that really is just out here trying to live life the best way she can and expressing herself,” she said.
Farieda added, “I think a lot of people have a lot of judgment for people who live without judging themselves… Pearl is just authentic to who she is, and she’s really just like, ‘Hey man, it was a mistake, I did that.’ And I think it would be great for the panellists to take that with her because it’s the only place you really can [be] without feeling judged. So, it’s perfect. She won’t take it seriously.”
But it’s not just Pearl who’ll be roasted. The panellists are also fair game, and Farieda is more than prepared. Hosting the podcast People Need Comedy (PNC) with Mpho Popps Modikoane, Tsitsi Chiumya, and celebrity guests has given her plenty of practice.
“Listen, I work on a podcast called PNC, and I get roasted every time we shoot. So, I think I’ve built up my wall, my armour is on. I’m ready for anything,” she told TRUE LOVE.
Farieda shared her hilarious approach to handling roasts. “There’s nothing that hasn’t been roasted about me on PNC. So, I’m ready for anything if they see anything. It could be my forehead because it has gotten bigger, I won’t lie. My hairline is a bit of a – ja, we are working on that. And I mean, anything else, like my eyes, it’s like from primary school. There’s nothing I haven’t heard. So, they must bring it on, I’m ready.”
