Miss South Africa 2024, Mia Le Roux, has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Miss Universe pageant after allegedly suffering from severe vertigo. The Miss South Africa Organisation announced the news this morning, expressing their support for Mia during this challenging time.
“It is with deep regret that we share the news that Mia Le Roux, Miss South Africa 2024, has had to withdraw from the Miss Universe competition due to health concerns,” the organisation said in a statement.
Mia, who has hearing impairment, shared her heartfelt thoughts about stepping back, saying, “I am profoundly thankful for the unwavering support from South Africa during my time at Miss Universe. Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed upon me. However, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength.”
Vertigo, which affects balance, has been a significant challenge for Mia in recent weeks. On X, Miss Universe South Africa shed light on her condition, stating, “Mia, because of her condition within the past two weeks, has been suffering from severe vertigo. As we are all aware, deafness affects balance. The decision to withdraw was not an easy one. And though our queen got the best support from MUO, the vertigo posed a severe health risk for her further participation.”
They continued, “Mia is capable and strong, as we all are aware. I kindly ask that she be shown grace and kindness through this period. Preparing for this moment for months and not being able to fully live it is devastating for any contestant.”
The Miss South Africa Organisation commended Mia’s resilience, adding, “Mia has shown incredible courage and grace throughout this difficult period. Her health and wellbeing are our utmost priority, and we stand by her side, dedicated to ensuring she regains her strength and returns to full health.”
The 73rd Miss Universe pageant is set to take place on 16 November 2024 in Mexico City.
