Controversial musician Kelly Khumalo surprised fans with an announcement on her 40th birthday—she’s now a certified inyanga, or traditional healer. According to Daily Sun, on Monday, November 11, Kelly shared the big news during an interview with Ukhozi FM, revealing that her journey to this point has been long and challenging.
“Today, as I’m celebrating my birthday, I’m also graduating as inyanga. So now, I’m officially inyanga,” she said. For the past 15 years, Kelly has undergone different forms of training in traditional healing, working to find her true path. “After 15 years of searching and trying to figure out who I am, today I’m finally graduating, and am a certified inyanga.”
Kelly’s journey, however, was far from ordinary. She explained that her calling goes beyond traditional healing and has a universal reach. “Mine is different. It’s not just traditional healing but a universal gift. It’s not only focused on black people, but it’ll go all over the world. That’s why it took longer for me to even figure it out, gogo.”
Her training, she explained, was varied and took place in different settings. “I was trained four to five times, but today is the first time I’m graduating as inyanga. I was trained in many places, including in the water, nature, by prayer, and through my roots, because it’s important to know where I come from to know where I’m going.”
In addition to this milestone, Kelly has big plans for her music career. She’s working on a project called 20 Years of Kelly Khumalo, set to release in early 2025, to mark two decades in the industry. “I’m celebrating many milestones: 20 years in the industry, turning 40, and graduating as inyanga for the first time,” she shared. “For me, it feels like I’m given a new life, and everything is renewed and restored.”
According to Daily Sun, during the interview she warmly referred to Ukhozi FM’s Mroza Buthelezi as “gogo,” showing respect and connection to her traditional roots.
