Reebok has officially announced the release of the SneAKA 2.0, a special edition sneaker that pays homage to the late South African rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and his iconic collaboration with the brand. The new design not only celebrates the original SneAKA but also honors AKA’s enduring influence in music, style, and African culture.
Set to launch on November 16, 2024, this limited-edition sneaker will see just 1,000 pairs made available, making it a must-have for both sneakerheads and fans of the late rapper.
“Five years ago, we partnered with the visionary Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes to create the iconic SneAKA—a fusion of style, creativity, and passion,” Reebok shared in their announcement. “Today, we’re humbled to celebrate this milestone by introducing the SneAKA 2.0, crafted in collaboration with the Forbes family to honour AKA’s enduring legacy. LONG LIVE SUPA MEGA LIVE LONG.”
The SneAKA 2.0 features thoughtful design elements that reflect AKA’s unique style and vision. Notably, the famous Union Jack has been replaced with a South African flag, a nod to his pride in his heritage and global impact.
In response to the announcement, AKA’s mother, Lynn Forbes shared the importance of the release, saying, “We really want to do this for one reason and one reason only, and it’s to celebrate Kiernan.” Rapper Nadia Nakai, who was Kiernan’s girlfriend at the time of his passing, added, “When it comes to the sneaker it’s so special because it’s something he was involved in when he was still here.”
As fans eagerly await the release of the SneAKA 2.0, it’s clear that this collaboration serves as both a tribute to AKA’s legacy and a celebration of his lasting impact on the world of music and fashion.
