In a heartbreaking turn of events, former Ambitiouz Entertainment artist Bokang Moleli, widely known as Malume Vector, tragically lost his life in a car accident on Wednesday afternoon. According to Sunday World the accident, which occurred on the N8 highway approaching the Free State, also claimed the life of upcoming artist Lizwe Wokuqala. The duo was traveling from Lesotho when the accident took place, accompanied by singer Puleng Phoofolo, who survived the crash.

The news of Malume Vector’s passing was first reported by the Lesotho Times on their Facebook page. The publication noted, “Unconfirmed reports indicate that a popular Lesotho musician, based in South Africa, died in a car crash this afternoon. Two more people also died.”

Thato Pebane, Malume Vector’s booking manager, confirmed the devastating news to Sunday World and announced that an official statement from the artist’s team and family would be released on Thursday morning.

Malume Vector, born in Lesotho, was a multi-platinum-selling artist who made a significant impact on the South African Afro-pop and hip-hop scene. His hit songs, such as “Dumelang” and “Nobody,” catapulted him to fame after being discovered by Ambitiouz Entertainment in 2020. Last year, he made headlines by leaving the record label to establish his own, The Whole Time Entertainment. Recently, he had secured a distribution deal with Ingrooves Africa (Electromode), a renowned global distributor.

Lizwe Wokuqala, Malume Vector’s first artist under his label, had just released a new single, “eLesotho,” last week. The two artists shared a deep bond and mutual respect, as reflected in their collaborative efforts.

Malume Vector’s journey began amidst the hilly landscapes of Maseru, Lesotho, where he grew up with grand visions for himself. “I grew up with mountainous views as my backdrop and enjoyed herding livestock while dreaming of what lies beyond the horizon and imagining all the possibilities life has in store for me,” he once shared with the media. His unique fusion of hip hop, Afropop, and elements of famo (Sotho folk music) distinguished his sound and propelled him to relocate to South Africa, where he continued to chase his dreams.

At the time of his passing, Malume Vector was working on new music, a testament to his relentless passion and dedication to his craft. Ambitiouz Entertainment paid tribute to the late artist with a heartfelt statement on their social media platforms: “With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of a shining beacon, the Lion of Lesotho’s sun has set. Our deepest condolences go out to his loved ones and industry peers during this time of profound loss. Rest In Peace Malome Vector.”

The music industry and fans alike mourn the loss of a talented artist whose contributions and legacy will not be forgotten.
