Thabiso Makhubela, the once-beloved presenter of Afternoon Express, has recently found himself entangled in a web of controversy and legal issues. According to Tshisa LIVE, social media was abuzz when news broke that Makhubela had been detained at a Johannesburg correctional facility following his departure from the popular weekday show.
The post that sparked the conversation stated, “Wonder what happened to the talented TV and radio personality Thabiso Makhubela from Afternoon Express? He has been behind bars at Johannesburg correctional services.” This shocking revelation left fans and followers in disbelief, as Makhubela had always been seen as a charismatic and professional figure in the media industry.
It has been alleged that Makhubela was dismissed from Afternoon Express last year due to misconduct. The situation took a darker turn when he was reportedly arrested for theft, leading to his detention at the Johannesburg correctional facility. The Department of Correctional Services confirmed these allegations through their spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo. “The department of correctional services can confirm Thabiso Makhubela was admitted at a Johannesburg correctional facility on April 4, 2024, for charges relating to theft. He was granted bail by the court, which he paid, and he was released on April 16,” Nxumalo stated.
However, the circumstances surrounding his departure from Afternoon Express remain murky. Lucian Albertyn, a content producer for Expresso, a sister show, offered a different perspective, saying, “He wasn’t fired. He left of his own accord.” This contradiction has only added to the speculation and intrigue surrounding Makhubela’s situation.
