DJ Fresh Announces Return to Radio in April 2025

Veteran broadcaster Thato ‘DJ Fresh’ Sikwane has confirmed his highly anticipated return to radio in April 2025, this is according to ZiMoja. After being dismissed from Metro FM in 2019 and 947 in 2021, DJ Fresh is set to make a comeback in the upcoming radio season, bringing excitement to his loyal fanbase.

DJ Fresh’s departure from Metro FM came after he used the word “Msun**y” on air, a term he insists was not the true reason behind his firing. “I don’t think I was fired for the word,” he said. “I was fired because I refused to apologise for using the word. I was suspended for a month.” According to the SABC, DJ Fresh was found guilty and sanctioned by the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) for contravening the BCCSA’s code of conduct. The SABC claimed that his language brought the broadcaster into disrepute, despite the BCCSA’s stance that the word didn’t exist in their lexicon.

Following his exit from Metro FM, DJ Fresh joined 947, only to be dismissed again along with Themba ‘Euphonik’ Nkosi amidst sexual assault allegations. “After extensive consultation, legal and otherwise, we have concluded that it is in our best interests to resume all of our public engagements,” stated Primedia at the time. Both DJs have since cleared their names and filed defamation cases against several individuals who accused them on social media.

In February 2023, DJ Fresh launched his online talk show, “WAW! What a Week,” which quickly gained popularity, amassing over 55,000 subscribers. Now, after almost four years off the air, he is ready to return to his radio roots. While he hasn’t disclosed the station yet, DJ Fresh revealed to ZiMoja, “I will be back in April; I can’t say where yet.” He hinted that his new show will be either a drive-time or a breakfast slot, adding, “I’m a radio-head through and through.”
