Showmax has just released the highly anticipated first trailer for One Weeks, a delightful family comedy set to premiere on July 22, 2024. This charming series follows Fana, a high-school dropout from the streets of Soweto, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he starts dating Lihle, a successful lawyer. To navigate the complexities of his new relationship and fend off wealthier rivals, Fana enlists the help of Lihle’s quick-witted 10-year-old daughter, Angie.
The series stars Zakhele Mabasa-Mokone (Isibaya) as Fana, Sihle Ndaba (Soweto Love Story) as Lihle, and Mangaliso Aluta Mthembu as the clever Angie. Created and written by Chris Q Radebe, known for his work on Icala and Isifiso, the show also features performances from Siphiwe Mtshali (Entangled, Tsha Tsha, Rhythm City) and Mpho Malatsi (Backstage., Scandal!).
Chris Radebe believes One Weeks taps into the unique sense of humour South Africans possess while also shedding light on the financial dynamics within relationships. “South Africans love to laugh at themselves,” says Chris. “This show showcases how partners navigate relationships where traditional gender roles are reversed. Every broke guy in the township dreams of dating a successful woman for the perks, but One Weeks reveals the hard work it takes to keep up with such a woman.”
The cast of One Weeks impressed Chris with their dedication and enthusiasm. “The cast showed up and showed out every time,” he says. “They went above and beyond what was written in the script, bringing their A-game to every scene.”
Sihle Ndaba agrees, highlighting the relatability and charm of the series. “We’ve got an amazing cast, the storyline is beautiful and relatable, and One Weeks is such a feel-good show,” she says. “It juxtaposes two people from different backgrounds – the suburbs and the township – showing us two worlds that often seem incompatible. Despite their differences, Lihle and Fana find common ground and love.”
Zakhele Mabasa-Mokone adds that the series comes at a perfect time for South Africans. “We’ve been through so much as a nation,” he says. “Now is the time for some feel-good, family-oriented content like One Weeks. It’s an opportunity to sit back, laugh, and reflect on what we go through as a society.”
One Weeks premieres on Showmax on July 22, 2024, with new episodes available every Monday. Get ready for a heartwarming and hilarious journey through love, family, and the unexpected intersections of life.
