Renowned South African actress Brenda Ngxoli has taken to social media to reveal shocking allegations of physical and financial abuse by her mother and sister. According to ZiMoja, this revelation follows her recent tell-all appearance on Podcast and Chill with MacG, where she first hinted at her family troubles.
In a series of candid posts, Brenda specifically called out her sister, Althea Lumka Ngxoli, branding her as “evil.” She shared, “Althea Lumka Ngxoli is her name. My ungrateful beloved sister has made a habit through the years of verbally abusing me at every turn she wishes. Who has allegedly been spreading vicious rumours about me, kindly allow me to elaborate. Today I break silence.”
Brenda detailed her history of supporting her family financially, despite facing verbal abuse and betrayal. “Through the years, I have supported my mom and sister with everything; rent, food, clothes, you name it. Even when I was living in Eastern Cape full-time, I was still paying their rent. One day when visiting them, my sister kicked me out at 11pm in the night,” she revealed.
The actress also shared her struggle with homelessness, saying, “I have been homeless for nearly two years now. Why must I leave all to them to enjoy? Nithi mandiyephi (where should I go), it’s not like ya’ll are going to house me. Why must the victim make a plan and perpetrators be left alone? Kwaze kwabuhlungu kum (this is painful).”
Brenda’s frustration and sense of betrayal were evident as she added, “Lastly, if my sister is going to take my stuff, she must do it during the people… Lumka you always said, ‘Let’s go to the media. Well, here it is Sisi. Let me share my fame with you.” Determined to no longer remain silent, Brenda stated, “But all I’m doing is creating a safe haven for shenanigans that do not grow nor heal us as a family. I’m done covering up my scars for my child’s sake. May she know that even if it was a while later, mama spoke out.”
Brenda recounted how she had tried to mend the family dynamics to no avail. “I used to give all my salary to my family. I worked very hard for them, they even called social workers for me,” she explained. “My family and I are not on speaking terms.” She described losing livestock she had purchased, which her family sold without her consent, leaving her with nothing. “I worked hard but I don’t have my sheep and goats. They threatened to take me to the papers,” she added.
When contacted for a comment, Brenda’s sister, Lumka, dismissed the allegations, saying, “This is a family matter, I won’t entertain it in public.” Brenda, on the other hand, stood firm on her statements, concluding, “I said what I said, that is my truth.”
