After a long time without releasing music, Professor is back with a brand new single with Nhlanhla titled “Watsamaya”. Day one kwaito enthusiasts will undoubtedly find themselves deeply connected to this new single, “Watsamaya,” by the renowned Professor featuring the iconic Nhlanhla Nciza of Mafikizolo. This track is yet another remarkable retro collaboration by Professor, who is well-known for his adeptness in creating nostalgic yet contemporary sounds.
“Watsamaya” poignantly captures the essence of everyday relationship struggles, encapsulating the tumultuous cycle of breaking up and making up. It delves into the profound pressures that financial circumstances impose on modern relationships and marriages, making it a resonant anthem for many.
Professor and Nhlanhla seamlessly blend their talents to breathe life into this exceptional track, infusing it with the distinctive elements reminiscent of Mafikizolo’s 90s hit, “Gape.” Professor’s long-standing admiration for Mafikizolo’s unique sound is evident, as he masterfully weaves theirinfluence into this powerful collaboration.

Mkhonzeni Professor Langa famously known as ‘Professor’ is from Umlazi Durban, South Africa. He started off as a member of a family group that comprised of his siblings, including Character who is now an award winning Kwaito artist popularly known for his hit song “Ex Ongasolveki”.
They were discovered by Tiny Siluma of Tiny and Khanyo fame’ Tiny and Stax introduced them to the legendary Spikiri who was the producer for well known kwaito group Vibe Squad. This then propelled them to new avenues including a move to Johannesburg in 1996, where the connection with Joe Nina was established working on Vibe Squad.
Consequently forming another group called Freeze where two more members were added to the siblings group. Professor also became a part of a Joburg based group ‘Suspects’ which was signed under the same label as the group Shana its members being Black Coffee, Shota and Demor.Since 1999 forming a formidable relationship that led to Shana teaching Professor the skillset of Music Production.
In 2000 Professor and Spikiri reunited and worked together on the Vibe Squad project, and other projects where they collaborated with T’zozo. Professor then signed to Kalawa Jazmee Records in 2005, and released as a Duo ‘Tzozo and Professor’ releasing three albums: “Woze Durban”, Amantombazane” and “Magazine”.
