The aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to cast a shadow of uncertainty, especially for those in the arts and entertainment industry. Among them is Carlo Radebe, a well-known South African actor and voice artist, who now finds himself in desperate need of assistance.

Despite his talent and contributions to acclaimed movies like “How To Steal Two Million” and “INumber Number,” as well as popular series such as “Isibaya” and “Ashes to Ashes,” Radebe’s journey has taken a distressing turn. Evicted from his home, he now resides in the back of a remote smallholding outside Johannesburg, struggling to make ends meet on a meager government grant of only R350 per month.

The harsh reality of Radebe’s situation is stark: without the means to afford basic necessities, he faces immense challenges in getting back on his feet. Unable to access casting agents or send audition clips, let alone sustain himself, Radebe’s plea for assistance resonates deeply within the community.

In response, individuals on social media platforms like X have expressed empathy and solidarity for Radebe’s plight. Comments such as “That COVID hit the entertainment industry hard, and our government did not even support the artists” and “This is the actor I want to see portraying the bad characters on movies & series” underscore the urgent need for support.

As the entertainment industry strives to recover, calls for legislative action, like the performers protection bill, echo the importance of ensuring artists like Radebe receive the recognition and support they deserve. In the meantime, the rallying cry for assistance remains clear: whether through donations, offers of accommodation, or employment opportunities, it’s time to come together and lift Carlo Radebe out of the darkness and into the light of hope once more.
