South African music sensation DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, took to the former Twitter platform, X, last night to express some strong sentiments. He embarked on a series of tweets, firmly asserting that he is the catalyst behind opening doors for numerous artists within the South African music industry.
Inevitably, the comment section erupted with accusations of him having an excessively inflated ego. Nevertheless, this did not deter him from expanding on his claims.
DJ Maphorisa, renowned for churning out one chart-topping hit after another, currently stands as one of the music industry’s biggest names. His Midas touch has seemingly turned everything he lays his hands on into a golden success story.
It appears that he is acutely aware of his influence, as evidenced by his recent online rant asserting that he has been the driving force behind the emergence of new talents and their realization of their potential in life.
“I’m the reason why artists secure favorable deals with record labels because I’ve shown them how to do it, even for free. I’m a game changer. I’ve cultivated an insatiable appetite in artists when it comes to the music business. Tell me if I’m mistaken and why,” he declared.
He further elaborated that he has played a pivotal role in demonstrating that affording luxury clothing brands is attainable:
“Do not forget the influence I’ve exerted. I’ve convinced them that dripping in style is possible. I’ve been an influencer, but now, it’s time for me to bid farewell,” he concluded.
The South African public weighed in on Maphorisa’s claims. While some concurred with certain aspects of his statements, others felt that his self-assuredness had reached excessive proportions.
“Use your wealth judiciously; one day, you shouldn’t find yourself in the same position as Doctor Malinga. Resorting to begging on all social media platforms. Please, brother,” one individual advised. Another added, “But, sir, allow us to give you your well-deserved accolades; don’t impose it upon us. There’s no need to incessantly remind us because, when you do. It suggests that it doesn’t stem from a genuine place 🤷🏾♂️. Let it flow naturally.”
