A 70 Year Old Woman Claims To Be Mandela’s Daughter. Lydia Mahakoe becomes the third person to claim to be the legend’s biological daughter. Mahakoe told The Citizen Mandela’s widow Graça Machel annoyed her efforts to meet the Mandela while he was still in relative good health back in 2008.
The supposed Mandela’s love child says she won’t have closure till she has visited the ultimate Qunu resting place of the person she claims is her father.
Lydia says reaching out to Graca wasn’t her first attempt to meet her father. “I informed her (Graca) that I had also tried to meet Winnie but could not, due to the tight security at her house. I told her my hope was for Winnie to assist in ensuring the paternity tests took place,” she told the local publication.
Nelson Mandela Foundation director of communications Neeran Naidoo said there had been similar stories before. “As a foundation, we believe this a family matter because the foundation was established to look after Mandela’s legacy. Therefore we don’t get involved in family matters.”
