5 Facts You Need To Know About Oliver Mtukudzi! Africa just lost another music legend again. News broke this afternoon that the Zimbabwean legend passed away in Harare.
Here are some unknown facts about him.
1. Oliver Mtukudzi made the cover of Time magazine, the only Zimbabwean musician to do so, and one of very few in the continent to have graced the cover.
2. He had been producing and releasing music since 1978 and has contributed to the World Music Network. The 67 year old was preparing to release his 67th album.
3. Oliver Mtukudzi’s only son, Sam Mtukudzi, was also a musician. Sam died in March 2010
4.. In 2011 the Forbes magazine included him in the Top 40 Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa in a list that included Akon, Chinua Achebe and Didier Drogba.
5. Mtukudzi died exactly a year to the date after his close friend Jazz legend Hugh Masekela died in 2018.
